Memory Care in Naples
A Day in the Life at Oakton Place Memory Care
At Oakton Place, every day in memory care is built around what matters most: connection, dignity, and the unique person your loved one has always been. Here’s what a typical day might look like in our memory care neighborhood.
Morning:
A Gentle Start
8:00 AM
The day begins at a natural pace. There’s no rush—just the comfort of waking up in a familiar space, greeted by familiar people. Prefer coffee before getting dressed? Need a little extra time in the morning? Our team knows these details because they matter.
Gentle assistance with grooming and dressing honors independence. We encourage choices—today’s blue sweater or the cozy cardigan? Small decisions that preserve dignity and a sense of control. Every success, no matter how small, is celebrated.
Breakfast & connections
8:30 AM
Residents gather in our dining area, where preferred foods are served with gentle encouragement. Beyond nourishment, it’s about sitting together, sharing a meal, and starting the day with warmth.
After breakfast, many residents gather for Coffee Talk, one of our favorite morning traditions. Over a fresh cup, residents reminisce about their lives—favorite memories, cherished places, and the stories that shaped who they are. Our team guides these conversations with care, creating connections that honor each person’s rich history.
Mid-Morning:
Purposeful Engagement
10:00 AM
Now the day comes alive with activities designed around individual abilities and interests. This is where Heartfelt Connections – A Memory Care Program® truly shines. We focus on what residents can do, not what they can’t.
Today might bring a Trivia Challenge that taps into long-term memories, or Creative Crafting & Coloring for those who love working with their hands at our arts and crafts studios.
Chair Yoga offers gentle movement and stretching, promoting physical well-being while residents remain comfortably seated. It’s about staying active in ways that feel good, at a pace that works for each resident.
Late Morning:
Special Visitors
11:00 AM
Taxi, our beloved therapy dog, makes his rounds, bringing smiles and the simple comfort of petting a gentle animal. Throughout the week, residents also enjoy Emily Ann’s violin performances—familiar melodies that stir emotions and memories words sometimes can’t reach. These moments remind us that joy lives in the smallest, most beautiful interactions.
Midday:
Calm & Comfort
12:00 PM
Lunch is another unhurried gathering. Familiar favorites are served, choices are offered, and mealtimes remain a source of comfort and social connection. After lunch, the rhythm slows. Some residents rest, while others enjoy activities like puzzles, soft music, or personalized one-on-one time with caregivers.
This is when we practice the principle of the 24-Hour Brain—understanding that different activities suit different times of day. We anticipate needs before they become anxieties, offering gentle redirection and reassurance in moments of uncertainty.
Afternoon:
Connection & Joy
2:30 PM
Afternoons bring fresh energy. Move it or Lose It!—our fun take on physical activity—keeps residents moving and engaged with music, light exercise, and laughter. We also take advantage of Naples’ beautiful weather with outdoor time on our secure patios and walking paths.
On special days, there might be a bus ride to the beach or a Girls’ Night Out Pizza Party!
Family visits are always welcomed and supported during this time. Our team guides these visits, helping create positive, meaningful connections. We share insights about your loved one’s day, offer conversation starters, and ensure visits feel comfortable for everyone.
Late Afternoon:
Sensory & Social
4:00 PM
As the day winds down, we engage residents in sensory experiences that bring calm and pleasure. Music therapy fills the air—whether it’s Emily Ann’s violin, familiar oldies, or soft classical music. Our Points of Interest—like our raised gardens, interactive wall art, or the peaceful fountain area—offer spots for quiet reflection and gentle stimulation.
Predictable routines and soothing surroundings help everyone feel safe and content as evening approaches.
Evening:
Comfort & Calm
6:00 PM
Dinner is served in our warm, familiar dining area. Soft lighting, calm music, and the presence of caring staff create an atmosphere of relaxation.
After dinner, residents might enjoy After-Hours Activities/Meditation & The Mind—quiet activities that promote tranquility as the evening unfolds. Some residents prefer a gentle walk around our secure neighborhood, while others gather for soft music or a favorite movie.
Bedtime:
Personalized Care
8:00 PM
As bedtime approaches, our caregivers support each resident’s unique nighttime routine. Soft lighting, calming music, and familiar rituals help ease the transition to rest.
Our overnight team remains present throughout the night, providing safety, reassurance, and assistance whenever needed.
